In February half term we had some exciting work happening at school. We have had our Woodland Play Area re-vamped and a new climbing frame and safety flooring put in. On the field we have also had some fitness equipment installed. Take a look at our video- we absolutely LOVE it!
An exhibition of children's art work will be taking place on Friday 27th March and Saturday 28th March 10-5pm at St Peter's Church Hall in Frimley. Please go down and have a look at some amazing work from lots of Surrey Heath Schools.
Due to the snow last week, we had to move World Book Day to today. We are amazed at the array of fabulous costumes that the children are in today - thank you all for the effort that has gone into the day.
Staff joined the children in dressing up - I'm not sure who enjoyed dressing up more, staff or children? I'm sure it was the staff !
Here are a few photos from the staff and children ....
You may have seen the new cabin by Year R, which was built over the half term by one of our parents, Mr Jacques Botha, our Caretaker, Mr Lesser along with the help from Henri Botha (Year 2). The cabin had to be built from the bottom up and was a HUGE task, but the guys did an amazing job and it should be completed by next weekend.
This cabin is to provide much needed additional space for small group intervention works. The staff are extremely excited about being able to use this space and the children have been set the task of naming the new cabin.
On behalf of all the staff and pupils at Heather Ridge we send a HUGE thank you to Mr Botha, Mr Lesser and Henri for all your time and hard work into building this much needed resource. Thank you also goes to the PTA for funding this project.
We had a great response from the parent questionnaire which was sent out to parents in June 17, so thank you to all that completed the questionnaire as without your valuable feedback, we can't improve and make Heather Ridge more successful.
The results have been added to the Year Group information Tab/Whole school part of the website. Alternatively, click on the above image to open the document directly. Please go and have a look and again, thank you for all that completed.
We are delighted to announce that Heather Ridge has been awarded the 'Big Award' for excellence in bullying intervention.
The BIG AWARD is given for excellence in bullying intervention. It is offered to schools, services, or local authorities. In order to achieve this award we had to:
Demonstrate that we are working to an externally agreed standard.
Have consistent and embedded good practice
Fully include all children and young people
Tailor our bullying intervention work to suit the schools needs
Ensure that every child is enabled to fulfil their true educational potential, or enjoy their community activities, without fear of being bullied
This award shows that our school takes bullying seriously enough to work towards accepted good practice. I'm sure you'll join us in being immensely proud of this achievement - look out for the plaque going up in reception shortly!
One of the ways we continue to improve as a school is by encouraging feedback from our parents on a regular basis. It is important for us that we know what you are thinking. Therefore, could you please take time to fill in our questionnaire, this can be completed two ways:
1. By using the paper version by clicking on the clipboard image
or by obtaining a copy from the school office
2. By completing the online version by clinking on the link below
As part of science week we had a gardening day on Friday. Children had a chance to try all sorts of gardening based tasks to try, from planting seeds, digging up weeds etc. It will be good to see their hard work growing over the next few weeks and we'll keep you posted on their progress.
Thank you to all those who gave up time to help and again, to Miss Ford for organising.
We had a fantastic science fair last week. The hall was turned into a science expo with some fabulous and very inventive science experiments on display. Everyone who came to look around commented on how very well displayed the experiments were and enjoyed reading the methods and conclusions.
We would like to thank all that entered for their hard work and we hope you all enjoyed taking part....maybe we have another Kepler, Franklin or Einstein amongst us..!
A huge thank you goes to Miss Ford for her hard work in organising the week and to all the parents for your support.
